Misophonia can reshape daily routines.

Misophonia is more than dislike of sound. For many people, specific repetitive sounds in classrooms, offices, libraries, family meals, public transport, and shared rooms can trigger strong emotional and physical responses. This research starts from that lived experience.

Shared meals become difficult

Chewing and utensil sounds can make eating with others stressful.

Study and work get interrupted

Tapping, typing, coughing, or breathing can break concentration.

Avoidance becomes the coping strategy

People leave rooms, wear earplugs, or avoid situations entirely.

Existing coping strategies have trade-offs.

People with misophonia often use earplugs, noise-cancelling headphones, white noise, or leaving the situation. These strategies can help, but they frequently block speech too, increase social isolation, or are impractical in certain settings. This study asks whether a more targeted approach is possible.

This research explores an AI-powered sound-filtering approach for earbuds and hearing-aid-style devices. The goal is to give you control: choose which trigger sounds to reduce, how strongly they are filtered, and whether to preserve speech and important sounds — or switch to stronger sound blocking when you need more quiet.

    Decide how strongly each sound is reduced, from a light touch to much stronger filtering.

This is not a medical device, treatment, or diagnosis tool. Findings will inform future research and design.
